ABOUT THE MURAL:

This mural was painted during the 2018 SpraySeeMO Mural Festival and is located on the south side of FlipSwitch VR on 20th & Washington in the Crossroads Arts District. Based on the iconic anime film Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo, this energetic mural depicts the climactic and memorable scene from the movie where main character Tetsuo “mutates into a gigantic mass of flesh” (wikipedia).

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Jake Merten is a self-taught Chicago-based artist, specializing in murals, illustration, design and creative direction. In 2011, Merten began his painting career while he living in Los Angeles, CA and working in the film industry. After spending three years out west, honing his and traveling to various cities to paint murals, Merten made his way back to Chicago where he has been based ever since. He continues to travel and paint as well as hand-paint custom jackets and shoes, and design illustrations.
